Floyd County is located in the southwestern part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Floyd County's topography is somewhat unique in that no streams or creeks flow into the county. Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve is located in Floyd County because it preserves includes the summit of Buffalo Mountain, it hosts 13 rare plant species.
Attractions and Events
The Floyd Country Store returns the visitor to a bygone era. Here you'll find old-time favorites like cornbread, corn cob jelly, and pinto beans. Step up to the old-fashioned candy counter as you listen to tunes emanating from the 1940s-era juke box. It is the home of Floyd's "Friday Night Jamboree," at which both local and visiting musicians perform.
FloydFest is a music and arts Festival that has rapidly grown since its founding in 2002. The festival builds on the musical heritage that the area has been known for since the 1960s. This festival, situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, includes multiple stages that feature many kinds of music, including reggae, bluegrass, rock, and folk, among others.
FloydFest also includes local artisans displaying their creations, dance workshops, yoga lessons, storytelling, and a special tent with kids' activities. Big names that have performed here in the past include The Neville Brothers, Bruce Hornsby, Alison Krauss, and Jackson Browne.
