History


A number of notable figures appear in the history of this community that was incorporated in 1792. For example, Daniel Boone was reported to have stayed in Christiansburg for awhile. Records at the courthouse included a warrant for his arrest due to the nonpayment of adapts. Davey Crockett also lived in town; He was at Elijah Griffiths Hattery Shop. The business went bankrupt, and Crockett was unable to pay his debts as well. The town was also the site of the first recorded dual using rifles in the Commonwealth; the Lewis/McHenry duel. Finally, Christiansburg was the home of Dr. Pepper, the inspiration for the soft drink of the same name.

Parks and Recreation


The park and rec department maintains eight parks for the benefit of its residents, including Depot Park. This Park offers Miracle Recreation playground equipment, basketball courts, soccer fields, and a T-ball field. It's a popular place for picnics, and it is within walking distance of Christiansburg's aquatic center and its skate park.

At present, the trail runs for more than 5.7 miles, and there are plans to extend it further to Gateway Park, the recreation center, and the New River Stage Trail.

This facility, in the New River Valley, puts a premium on accuracy and quality shotmaking. The course was designed by Ray Vaughn Sr. in 1955. Then, the back nine was added in 1975. The Meadows offers mountain-style golf including evergreen-lined fairways and panoramic views.
